CANADIAN THANKSGIVING: A TIME TO GIVE THANKS

Thanksgiving is a special time to pause, reflect, and appreciate the good things in our lives. As Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving, we are reminded that gratitude is not only about what we have, but also about the people who make our lives meaningful.

Life does not always go as planned. We experience challenges, disappointments, unexpected changes, and moments of uncertainty. Yet, even in difficult seasons, there are reasons to be thankful: the gift of life, the support of family and friends, the kindness of strangers, and the opportunity to begin again.

Thanksgiving is also a reminder to appreciate the people behind our blessings. The person who checks on us, the neighbour who offers help, the friend who listens, the volunteer who gives their time, and the community member who works quietly to make life better all deserve to be appreciated.

For families and communities, this celebration offers an opportunity to reconnect, share meals, create memories, and make room for those who may otherwise spend the day alone. A small act of kindness can make the season more meaningful for someone else.

As people from different cultures and backgrounds come together across Canada, Thanksgiving also reminds us of the importance of sharing, inclusion, and caring for one another. We may celebrate in different ways, but gratitude and kindness are values we can all embrace.

This Thanksgiving, let us look beyond the celebrations and ask ourselves: Who has made a difference in my life, and how can I make a difference in someone else's?

May this season bring renewed hope, peaceful moments, stronger relationships, and grateful hearts. Let us not wait for special occasions to express appreciation. A sincere thank-you, a thoughtful message, or a helping hand can mean so much.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving from Women of Dignity International (WODI)!

May we continue to build communities where everyone feels valued, supported, and included.
